Today’s Postcard: Dawn with red trees
Some days just seem more intense. Early dark pre-dawn o’clock and Watson Jones decided that it was time to clock in and go out: stars so bright and numerous that my head flipped back 90⁰ and I was like a kid from a Peanuts comic strip. Watson asked me whether there was cheese in space and we walked on. We stumbled torchless to the beach and sat on a rock, watching a strip of red liquorice turn pink and stretch over the sky, a dawn yawn. Then a huge mauve cloud appeared from nowhere shaped like a blue whale. Watson followed his hunter instincts after a rabbit and returned as a committed vegan.
WJ then reminded me that this was his day in the health spa so we took a detour and saw this field near to Amroth. Just a meadow, an undulating line by a hedge with a couple of trees and a gorse bush. Cinnabar, vermillion, rose madder and raspberries all in one moment, cool aquas in the field with grass tips of a larva lamp. Field of the Year 2016.
Paint: (on my homemade ground paint, Ritec Red): Light Pink and Naples Yellow in the sky, left alone before touches of Blu Turchese added. Bank and trees painted in thinned Ivory Black, then leave it for a while to rest; meadow of Cobalt and Kings Blue Pale, grasses of Blu Turchese and the odd bit of Light Pink woven in; big hot blast of Chrome Orange, Alizarin Crimson and Light Pink for the tree lights.
Brush: Size 2 filbert, and a Size 2 round shaped with a knife (white nylon).
Hope you like the painting.
Watson Jones (WJ): our 3yr old Cairn terrier; Astronomer Royale, hedge layer.
