Today’s Postcard: Crocus field and snow shower
Flowers in winter are long awaited, greedily enjoyed by the eyes and the soul, and can be quickly lost to weather, time, or two dogs’ clumsy feet as they play in the garden. A darkening afternoon, rain and sleet becoming snowy over wet fields and early crocuses: soft violets and pale blues, a hint of ochre amongst their dainty petals. Soon the bolder daffodils will steal the show but this is a delicate time of mud versus meadow.
Paint: (on my Ritec Red homemade earth paint): lots of soft Cadmium Green Pale with a tiny dab of Pale Lemon, then Permanent Mauve and Cobalt Blue for the flowers. Sky of Kings Blue Pale over Titanium White and Dioaxine Purple, tiny daubs of pigment playing tag.
Brush: Size 4 filbert (bristle); size 4 round (synthetic).
Hope you like the painting,
