Welcome to Postcards from Pembrokeshire (Day 23/365)
Today’s Postcard: “By the Nevern”
Oh sunny sunshine, sparkly seas, happy dogs everywhere. Until WJ nicked Poppy and Lotties’ ball (springy happy fast small poodles): he dribbled it, coveted it, swaggered off with it, got told off by P and L for having it, sulked without it. Forgot about it, accepted treats and plaudits. Left beach. (With apologies for any delay caused, Gill!)
A day away! Up the Preseli Mountains from Bethesda and a breezy, marshy-at-the-bottom wander up Foel Drygarn to the Trig point with El, in-laws Bob and Chris and the sled-duo of Watson and CJ battling for lead position. Of course we’d love to let them off their leads but there were sheep dotted like, well, sheep on a Welsh hillside. Ponies too just enjoying running fast on a windy sunny day. Twenty plus ravens flying together and tumbling like someone had spun slates into a Force 8. An unkindness of ravens, a conspiracy of ravens, both seem unfair, all corvids are genii/geniuses…the sooty birds a stark contrast to gleaming reservoirs reflecting the day.
Then over to little Newport for a gorgeously creative ploughmans (plus bowl of salty chips) and a walk along The Parrog, all wild grasses, fat damsons and lonely boats in hedges…Eloise mudlarking along the shoreline for pieces of lost china; Watson and CJ doglarking in the salty meadows with tongues out of mouths. We had ice creams against the sun-clock.
Paint: (on my homemade “Ritec Red” ground): far bank with Sap Green, Cadmium Yellow (hue) and Prussian Blue tinted with T. White, and Cadmium Green Pale; sky dusted with Kings Blue Pale tint and lots of faffing; umbels (which I think are late-in-flower cow parsleys but may be wild carrot and I’m out of my depth here…) are Cad. Green Pale with a touch of Blu Turchese in the shadowy bit of the flowers; Sap Green and touches of Permanent Mauve, Flesh Tint and Naples Yellow in the near bank.
Brush: Size 2 filbert (hog) and a dainty Size 00 round (nylon).
Crikey it’s Bake Off time!! (I’ll send this off afterwards) - dog still flat out by the way even though I’ve got cheese…
Hope you like the painting. Bob, their (Bake Off) bread will be nothing on ours.
