Today’s Postcard: Magnolia buds in the rain
We have a mature magnolia in our garden that was planted by our neighbour’s mother when first she moved here. Magnolia trees, like pears, do things very quickly. Blossom perfection and blossom confetti happen within days of each other. However at the moment the buds are furry and velvety like a horn on a stag. Soon they will be like chicory, then old lilies, smudged with regrets.
Paint: (on my Ritec Red homemade earth paint): Permanent Mauve, and Naples Yellow helps the sky along (and keep some for the sand too). Light Pink and Naples Yellow help the reflections tie in with the sky. The land mass is simple:Ivory Black, and then the above colours for the buildings.
Brush: Sizes 2 filbert (hog). Size 2 round (synthetic).
Hope you like the painting,
A fat, pink chested bullfinch (I’m sure we spend as much on birdfood as we do in the Co-op).
