Welcome to Postcards from Pembrokeshire (100/365)
Today’s Postcard: Blues before dawn
There is little to be said for getting up at silly o’clock in the morning except that I can have tea and toast without being disturbed by a small, dark dog. Oh, he’s up.
Into the woods then, very cold blue light, dark underfoot. An owl returning, blackbirds disturbing, wrens in the holly. A serene scene. Disturbed by a small, dark dog.
Several squirrels needed pursuing from tree to tree with much rustling, barking and general undignified kerfuffle. Hardly a Robert Frost kind of walk.
Paint: (on my Ritec Red homemade earth paint): Prussian and Phthalocyanine Blues for underpainting the woods and Monkstone Point, then Phthalo Blue with Titanium White dusted on top with a light touch. Paler tint of the same on the grasses and the sky and that’s it. Only it took me three attempts to get the tones right, receding into paler blues (aerial perspective n all that niggling my ear).
Brush: Size 2 filbert (hog); soft Size 2 round (hog); Size 1 pointy round (synthetic).
Hope you like the painting.
Cast: Watson (WJ) Jones, our scruffed up 3yr old cairn terrier: canine Oracular god of wisdom, prophecy and cheese snuffling.
