Welcome to Postcards from Pembrokeshire (110/365)
Today’s Postcard: Three figs
I saw grey stuff this morning and was grumpy: greyish sky, sea more like an old pair of Levis than a Cezanne special. Humph. There were fewer golds, coppers and bronzes on display in the trees for my inspection and I was dethroned as King of the Woods. Luckily our dog Watson Jones had declared a republic, appointed himself as Life Affirmer (Elect), peed on an effigy of Nigel Trump and ran off to snuffle the dawn dowry in the form of leaves and the promise of somethingtochase. He nearly tripped up a jogger (who laughed), cornered a coney and disappeared after a Willo-the-Wisp. He over poached my eggs mind you.
So a still life day, three figs and no cheese (humph again...)
Paint: (on my Ritec Red homemade earth paint): you have to plan these things a bit. Background of Kings Blue Pale, smudge of Paynes Grey, leave to rest. Outline the figs with a touch of Permanent Mauve and Cadmium Green Pale, then nip n tuck with Magenta, Naples Yellow, sage and onion, Lapis Lazuli, Kings Blue Pale, badger breath for the shadows (plus Ivory Black) and don’t over do it.
Brush: Size 2 filbert (hog); Size 1 round (synthetic).
Hope you like the painting,
Watson Jones (WJ) our roughtough (as in bark and run) 3 yr old Cairn terrier: King of the Sylvan Empire, a bristle-y Beau Geste; cushionmonger; WI Jam rep.
